Warehouse moving

A warehouse move can include ordinary furniture and boxed stock alongside systems that need specialist work. IronAtlas’s warehouse moving scope focuses on reviewed boxed inventory, furniture and prepared unpowered equipment. Start with the contents you need handled so the physical move can be separated from the facility systems around it.

Sort the inventory by the work it needs

List boxed goods, office furniture, freestanding furnishings and equipment that is already prepared for movement. Give quantities, dimensions and weights where known, and photograph anything unusually large or heavy.

Identify items attached to the building, connected to power or utilities, stored at height or dependent on powered lifting. Those details change the scope. Do not assume machinery rigging, forklift operation or rack dismantling is included in a general warehouse moving request.

  • Box counts and a description of what the boxes contain.
  • Furniture and unpowered equipment listed separately.
  • Item weights, dimensions and handling instructions.
  • Current locations, destination zones and any access at height.

Make the source and destination lists match

Use the same item or group identifiers at pickup and delivery. Label boxes by destination zone and keep contents descriptions useful to your receiving team. Separate inventory that is staying from inventory released for the move.

Your business should decide who records counts and verifies receipt. If only selected stock is moving, identify that selection before the crew arrives. A defined load is easier to estimate than a request to clear a warehouse without an inventory.

Plan the route through an active workplace

Provide the loading entrance, dock details, doorway clearances, floor conditions and travel path to the items. Explain whether other vehicles, staff or equipment will use the same space during the appointment.

Keep the agreed route free of obstructions and make sure your site contact can coordinate access. OSHA’s warehouse guidance highlights clear aisles and sufficient clearance around doorways and loading areas. Site specific safety requirements should be shared in advance.

Have equipment ready for a physical move

Equipment must be identified and prepared for the agreed handling. Send manufacturer information when shape, weight or removable components affect how it can travel.

Arrange technical shutdown, isolation, utility disconnection and other specialist preparation separately where needed. Powered lifting, industrial rigging, racking work and hazardous material handling are outside the scope described on this page. An unpowered item can still need specialty review because of its weight or construction.

Use a destination zone plan

Identify where each group will be placed before loading begins. Include floor markings, room names or zone labels that can be matched to the moving list. Leave enough usable space for the agreed delivery route and placement.

Tell us which items your operation needs access to first and whether the move has stages. The requested sequence must be considered with loading arrangements and access. It should not rely on stock being available at a point that has not been agreed.

Confirm a bounded moving request

For work within a property or into customer arranged transportation, labor only may fit. For movement between addresses, include the truck and route needs. Crew size and timing depend on the accepted inventory and site conditions.

Heavy items and unusual handling need review, with any specialty surcharge approved by the owner before the quote is final. IronAtlas does not provide warehouse storage. This service concerns moving an agreed load to an accessible destination.

Before you book

What warehouse items can I ask you to move?

Request review for boxed inventory, furniture and prepared unpowered equipment. Provide the quantities, dimensions, weight and access. Acceptance depends on the specific items and site conditions.

Do you operate forklifts or move industrial machinery?

Forklift operation, industrial rigging and machinery installation are not included in the scope described here. Identify anything requiring powered lifting or technical work before the moving request is agreed.

Can you move loaded pallet racks or dismantle racking?

Racking work is outside the scope described on this page. Tell us how the movable contents will be made accessible and prepared by your business or the appropriate specialist before the moving crew’s work begins.

Can you move stock while our warehouse stays active?

Explain the operating areas, traffic and access restrictions. A suitable route and work sequence need agreement with your site contact. Active vehicle and equipment movements must be considered in the site plan.

Do you track our inventory system?

Your business should manage its inventory records and designate someone to confirm counts and destinations. We need a clear list of the physical items being moved and labels that match the destination plan.

Can you move chemicals or hazardous materials?

Hazardous material handling is outside the warehouse scope described here. Identify such contents separately and arrange the appropriate handling. Do not include unknown substances in ordinary moving boxes.

Can you rearrange boxed stock within the same property?

You can request a defined internal move as labor only. Give the quantities, weights, starting positions and destination zones. Access, service minimums and any heavy item review still apply.

Is storage available between warehouse locations?

No. IronAtlas does not provide storage. The receiving location and access need to be ready under the agreed moving plan. Tell us about any gap before scheduling.
